NFL Foundation and Las Vegas Super Bowl Host Committee Contribute $3M to Support Local Nonprofits

The Las Vegas Super Bowl Host Committee and NFL Foundation contributed $3 million in grants to 117 nonprofit organizations through its Super Bowl Legacy Grant Program. 

Funding through this initiative will support projects and programs to permanently improve the lives of Southern Nevadans in the areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion; education; health and wellness; social justice; and youth and young adults. 

In addition, the Las Vegas Super Bowl Host Committee Charities awarded an additional $58,000 to the YMCA for their service to the Las Vegas community youth. 

“Through the Super Bowl Legacy Grant Program, we strive to ensure the NFL leaves a legacy of philanthropy and community impact long after the final whistle of Super Bowl LVIII,” said NFL Vice President of Philanthropy and Executive Director of the NFL Foundation Alexia Gallagher. “We are honored to have worked with the Las Vegas Super Bowl Host Committee to recognize and support these fantastic nonprofit organizations in their continued efforts to uplift those in need in Southern Nevada.”

Nevada Adds Jobs in October; Unemployment Rate Increases

According to the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation’s (DETR) October 2022 economic report, Nevada added 7,500 jobs over the month, the third-largest monthly increase over the past year. Employment remains 22,200 jobs higher than before the pandemic and is up 55,500 jobs since October 2021, an annual increase of 3.9%. The total employment level in the state is 1,471,800.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Nevada increased slightly in October from 4.4 percent to 4.6 percent, and decreased by 0.8 percentage point from 5.4 percent in 2021, seasonally adjusted. The slightly increase mirroring the increase in the U.S. unemployment rate from 3.5 to 3.7 percent.

Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) Employment (Seasonally Adjusted):

  • Las Vegas employment increased by 4,900 jobs (0.5%) since September, an increase of 46,300 jobs (4.5%) since October 2021.
  • Reno employment had a decrease of 500 jobs (-0.2%) since September, an increase of 7,300 jobs (2.9%) since October 2021.
  • Carson City employment had an increase of 100 jobs (0.3%) since September, an increase of 800 jobs  (2.6%) since October 2021.

New K-8 Charter School, Sage Collegiate, Hosts Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

Yesterday, Sage Collegiate Public Charter School opened its permanent facility at a grand opening ceremony. The K-8 school, which opened in August with K-5, has moved into a fully renovated Elks Lodge in central Las Vegas on 4100 W Charleston Blvd and will share its space with the community. Work for a second building on its campus has already begun and will open in 2025.

The charter school currently has more than 200 students in kindergarten through 5th grade. Sage Collegiate has a slow growth model and will add another kindergarten and a 6th grade class in the 2023-24 school year. Registration for the school’s lottery is open. At capacity, Sage Collegiate will have 800 students in kindergarten through 8th grade.

“There is a great need for public charter schools in Las Vegas. With most charter schools being located around the perimeter of the city, Sage Collegiate gives students in the central Las Vegas community access to more options for education,” said Jennifer Braster, board chair of Sage Collegiate.

Indigo Pharmaceutical plans to establish a new pharmaceutical manufacturing operation in the Las Vegas Medical District, Rechargeable Power Energy is expanding its existing Clark County battery manufacturing facility, and Tranzonic Companies will expand its Nevada presence with a facility in North Las Vegas.

Indigo Pharmaceutical, LLC — 100 jobs, $34.20 average wage, Pharmaceutical Manufacturing

Indigo Pharmaceutical manufactures ready-to-use syringes and single-use intravenous (IV) bags for hospitals, office-based practices, and veterinary practices. The company’s long-term plans include building a full manufacturing facility in Nevada.

Rechargeable Power Energy, North America, LLC — 88 jobs, $28.50 average wage, Battery Manufacturing

Rechargeable Power Energy plans to expand its existing Clark County facility from 8,000 square feet to 20,000 square feet within the next few months. The company’s intent is to expand its U.S. service center to support the increasing demand for lithium applications and establish a Safe Battery Service Center in Nevada that can support any lithium application.

Tranzonic Companies — 18 jobs, $28.28 average wage, Manufacturing & Distribution

Tranzonic Companies is a national manufacturer and distributor of cleaning, maintenance, and absorbent products for commercial applications, headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio. The company plans to expand its Nevada presence through a new facility in North Las Vegas within the next few months.

“LVGEA, together with its partners, are strategically targeting industries that not only bring high-paying jobs to the region, but also help diversify our region’s economy,” said Tina Quigley, president and CEO of the Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance, one of eight Regional Development Authorities (RDA) in Nevada designated by the Governor’s Office of Economic Development for 2022-2023.“We are excited to see a pharmaceutical company recognizing the value the Las Vegas Medical District offers for its local expansion, and to see a local battery manufacturer expanding in its backyard as part of the state’s growing lithium loop.”

Caesars Palace Completes Multimillion-Dollar Main Enhance Renovation

Caesars Palace has completed its multimillion-dollar entrance renovation. The new design includes a coffered ceiling, an intricate marble mosaic floor, a 15-foot-tall Carrara marble statue of Augustus Caesar, gaming areas and the new Galleria Bar in the hotel lobby.

“Since Caesars Palace opened its doors in 1966, we have been inspired by founder Jay Sarno’s promise to treat every guest like a Caesar,” said Sean McBurney, Caesars Entertainment Regional President.

The new crystal chandelier at the dome weights approximately 3,200 pounds and is comprised of 12,000 individual crystals. The linear rays that radiates from the chandelier contain approximately 120,000 additional crystals. The total cost of the crystals is more than $1 million.

Day 1 Recap of NYU International Hospitality Industry Investment Conference

NEW YORK, November 8, 2021 – Today, the NYU School of Professional Studies Jonathan M. Tisch Center of Hospitality convened top hospitality industry executives and thought leaders from across the US and around the world for its 43rd Annual NYU International Hospitality Industry Investment Conference at the New York Marriott Marquis in New York City. This leading hospitality forum is one of the first major industry conferences to resume in-person in NYC since the pandemic struck.

Jonathan M. Tisch, chairman and CEO of Loews Hotels & Co. and co-chairman of the board of Loews Corporation, who serves as Conference chair, opened the event, which spans three days (November 7-9) by delivering remarks on the state of the industry and providing a preview of the content to come. In his opening remarks, while he focused on the issues the hospitality, travel, and tourism industries continue to face due to the pandemic, he also stressed the opportunities at hand, specifically in the areas of business travel, global events, and the power of these industries to bring people together.

The first day of content was highlighted by thought-provoking general sessions with high-profile leaders and innovators sharing their insights.

Nassetta, president and chief executive officer, Hilton. The executives shared positive outlooks as the industry focuses on 2022. From foreign travel resuming to family members and friends eager to be back together, they expect to see continued growth in the sector, with people feeling more comfortable with traveling. While the pandemic caused tremendous hardship, these leaders are clearly embracing the accelerated change that has come from it—particularly in the area of customer experience. They also see efficiencies across the sector, technology, and remote work, as being key influences now and in the months ahead.

During “Reimagining the Workforce: Labor Challenges and Opportunities in Travel and Lodging,” Vanja Bogicevic, PhD, director of the HI Experiential Learning Lab and clinical assistant professor at the NYU SPS Jonathan M. Tisch Center of Hospitality; Tom McCaleb, managing director at Boston Consulting Group; and Oliver Bonke, advisor at Boston Consulting Group and member of the advisory board of the Tisch Center; discussed reimagining the travel and lodging workforce to meet the evolving labor challenges and opportunities across the hospitality industry, as described in a recently developed white paper they, along with colleagues at their respective organizations, authored.
